Technology Services
Computers
Computers are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as by reservation. Reservations can be made by phone or in person at a specific library location for the current day only. If you live in Washington County and the surrounding area, you need a library card for computer access. Visitors to the area can get a free guest pass on a day-to-day basis. All computer users are limited to three, 60 minute sessions per day.
A limited number of programs are installed on the computers, but most computers have Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Publisher) and Internet Explorer installed on them. Patrons are not allowed to install their own programs onto any of the libraries' computers.
Library staff is available for general assistance in using the computers. However, staff members are not expected to train patrons in the use of all programs.
Most of the computers allow Internet access. Please read the Internet Use Policy before browsing the Internet. The library employs a web filter to block assess to objectionable web sites. On request, the filter can be disabled for those 18 years or older.
Most computers are connected to either an Inkjet or LaserJet printer. Black and white printouts cost $.10 a page and color printouts cost $.50 a page. Printouts must be paid for in advance. Credit and debit cards are not accepted.
Blank floppy disks are available for $1.00 each. Blank recordable CDs (CD-R) are also available at the Marietta library for $1.00 each.
Flatbed and document scanners are available at the Information desk at the Marietta Library.
Wireless Internet Access
All of the Washington County Public Libraries are set up for wireless access to the Internet (wireless hotspots).
Library visitors with wireless cards in personal laptops or hand held mobile devices will have access to the Internet. The hotspots support most brands of wireless "B" or "G" devices. Wireless service is available during Library business hours. Look for the "Wireless Hotspot" signs to locate the hotspot areas.
Visitors requiring assistance in using the wireless hotspots can find help at any of the libraries.
Remember, the wireless access is an unsecured service, therefore there is a potential security risk associated with its use. If you use the wireless service to transmit any important information such as passwords, bank account numbers, etc., it is possible for someone to intercept that information with the proper equipment.
Photocopy Machines
A photocopy machine is available at each library. Copies are $.10 a page. Please be advised that there are copy restrictions on copyrighted material. Any violation of a copyright is the responsibility of the photocopy machine user.
No color photocopiers are available at the libraries.
Fax Service
Faxing service is available at all of the libraries. Faxes are $1.00 a page for fax numbers within the United States. International faxes are $2.00 a page for the first five pages and $1.00 a page thereafter. The faxing fees apply to all numbers, including toll-free. Receiving a fax costs $1.00 a page regardless of the fax's origin.
Video Phone
A video phone is available at the Marietta library. Please ask at the Information desk for assistance.
